Records/Reports
WAUNAKEE POLICE DEPARTMENT
Records
Records are available for request and/or inspection, Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. excluding holidays
Requests for records shall be taken and forwarded to the Lieutenant. As soon as practical, the Lieutenant or his designee either complete the request, or notify the requestor of a denial.
There are various reasons a record may be denied release. It may be a case under investigation or for various other reasons under state statutes 19.32 and 19.85.
There may also be a cost incurred with fulfilling your request. Copies of documents are $.25 per page, depending on the type or record requested, (photographs, video tapes, printouts, etc) the cost may vary.
Accident reports
Accident reports are typically available for release 5 days from the incident date. Those 5 days allow a supervisor to review and approve the report.
If you have any questions regarding the records request procedure, please contact Lt. Peterson at (608) 849-4523 or jpeterson@waunakeepd.org. Record requests or requests for copies of accident reports will NOT be accepted via e-mail. Records will not be released over the phone. We may verify that a record exists or not, and then the normal procedure must be followed.
