THE WAUNAKEE POLICE DEPARTMENT

WHO WE ARE

The Waunakee Police Department has 17 full time Police Officers. This includes 1 Chief, 1 Lieutenant, 3 Sergeants, 10 Patrol Officers, 1 Detective and 1 Police School Liaison Officer.

The office is staffed by two full time employees. Office staff handles over 9000 phone calls and 2900 walk in customers annually. All 911 calls go directly to the Dane County Communication Center located in Madison.

PATROL/PROGRAMS

We provide 24 hour a day protection for Waunakee’s estimated 2008 population of 11,300 residents. Officers patrol over 200 streets, multiple businesses, and many parks. Officers have over 19,000 contacts annually with individuals. The department provides many community policing programs including; Operation ID Youth Fingerprinting, National Night Out, Bicycle Rodeo, Citizen’s Academy, and White Collar Crime Symposiums.

SPENDING ON POLICE SERVICES

Our department prides itself on keeping costs for police services low and solving crimes. Of the 54 communities in Wisconsin with populations between 7,500 and 15,000, Waunakee ranked 53rd in police spending per capita. (*Source is Wisconsin Taxpayer’s Alliance).

CRIMES SOLVED

Along with our low costs for police service, our department solves far more crimes on average than other law enforcement agencies in Wisconsin. Law Enforcement in Wisconsin, on average, solves approximately 27% of all uniform crimes reported (UCR) to respective departments. The Waunakee Police Department’s clearance rate has averaged 46% over the last five years (Source: Office of Justice Assistance.)

OFFICE HOURS

Our business office is generally open:

Monday through Friday, 7am-7pm

Since we only have two office staff, office hours vary. When the office is closed, phone calls are answered by the Dane County Communication Center.
